UR Enough Charity Sweat: Barry's Bootcamp

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Being human, we know that mental health challenges are a part of life for almost all of us, whether we struggle ourselves or know someone who does. We need to start talking about this and in order to create those conversations, we need to build awareness.

On May 30 2018, we challenged our community to engage in conversations that may be difficult, but as are necessary. Partnering with Barry's Bootcamp, we offered a for a full body charity workout with all proceeds from the event in support of SickKids Foundation. Bold thinking and bold moves takes courage, and seeing everyone at a SOLD OUT class raise $1686 for SickKids Foundation was a reminder of how overcoming fear can lead to brave actions.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

After the class, we challenged everyone to have a meaningful conversation this week — ask someone how they are doing, actively listen to what they have to say, and truthfully respond. Stigma and shame can make a person feel very closed to talk about their mental health. It can cause a person to be unable to truly express themselves for fear of judgement, or unsupportive and non-empathetic responses from people that they trust. By giving someone else the attention and space to reach out, they might feel supported enough to do so.

Now we want to challenge YOU to do the same; show the people that you cross-paths with that you care, that you are listening, that you see them and that they matter. You never know the impact that a conversation might have on someone’s life.
